The Whitworth threads specified in DIN 240-1923 are technically
equilivant to the Whitworth threads specified in BS 84, however,
BS 84 has more complete data.
DIN 240-1923 does not contain complete Whitworth thread specifications.
Specification DIN 240-1923 identifies only the basic thread configuration
but does not specify the tolerance limits of the thread. When considering
thread gages for parts made to the DIN 240-1923, the standard only
gives the data for the GO member of the gage. The specification
does not give the data for the NOGO member of the gage. In other
words, the specification only gives half the information required.
BS 84 is more commonly used when Whitworth threads are required.
The Whitworth thread form was developed in the United Kingdom, which
is where the BS 84 standard was written. BS 84 does give complete
thread data and thus is a better specification to reference when
Whitworth threads are required.
